Kelly O's-1130 Perry Highway Pines Plaza,Pgh Pa. 3/08/11, 2:30 pm

Stopped at Kelly O's today. This is one of the Diner Ladies and has been seen on the Food Network show Diner's, drive-ins and dives. As we Two fat ladies love fish we both got a fish sandwich, and I had the crab bisque, with my sister getting the turkey pot pie soup. Yes you read it right, turkey pot pie soup. This is a rich combination of turkey in a white sauce with vegetables. It is topped with broken shards of crisp pie crust and served hot. This is a meal in itself. I had the crab bisque, this was so thick I stood my spoon upright in the cup. It has a thick creamy texture, with chunks of crab, just delicious!. The fish sandwich was a generous piece of cod on a fresh bun. The fish is beer battered but has a light, crispy texture. This sandwich was a little overcooked, but was still good none the less. The sandwich comes with wonderful french fries that are hot and crisp ; and cole slaw that was fresh, crunchy and moderately vinegary. My sister had hot coffee that she described as good and strong and I had fresh brewed iced tea that was right on point.
All in all, a good lunch, but the prices are a little high in relations with other similar types of places. Here a hamburger is $4.50 with 50c added per topping; clubs are $6 to $7.69 and pretty ordinary sandwiches are between $2.50 for a hot dog to $6.19 for a grilled ham and cheese.Salads start at $7.59. This place is only opened til 3pm and it is not handicapped accessible.

Kretzler's Tavern-2240 Babcock Blvd,Pgh PA 15237 3/5/11

This is a place we have gone to 4 times in the past 3 months. We have had their fish sandwiches (large pieces of cod cooked just right); hamburgers (juicy, cooked to order); reuben (piled high with lean corned beef); crispy fish strip basket (cooked perfectly) and shrimp basket (rather smallish serving of shrimp, but good).
Today, I ordered the Italian hoagie half, which came with my choice of one side and I chose potato pancakes. I was disappointed with the hoagie I'm sorry to say. After all the really good food and generous servings I found this sandwich to be only so-so with small portions of fair lunch meats, skimpy cheese and topped with a large pile of shredded lettuce. This was all served on a toasted  hoagie roll So, if you love lettuce, this is your sandwich. The best part of my meal was the potato pancakes served with sour cream. The pancakes are about 1/2 inch thick and are crispy on the outsides and are cooked but still have texture on the insides. These should be eaten when they are served hot as they tend to get a little rubbery when they are cold. My companion had the fish sandwich again, and as I stated before, this is always a good choice. I would like to mention that the food is fresh made and if this place is somewhat full, or if there is a party in the banquet room, there can be a bit of a wait for the food.
I would like to mention the appetizers. The spinach artichoke dip, fries, and combo platter are great bar food choices. The combo platter being my personal favorite.

Max's Allegheny Tavern-537 Suismom St. Pgh., PA 15212 2/11 3pm.

Max's is a Northside landmark that these two fat ladies have been going to for years even when it was called Max and Erma's and they lost part of the name to the big restuarant chain. This was a big disapointment. We were seated and given menus. We sat alone for over 15 minutes when I got up and went into the other roon that had several tables full. I stood there for a few minutes and didn't see a waitress.I went back to our table and started to gather our coats when the host came into the room to seat another table.I told him that we had not seen a waitress yet and he stated he would send one back and left. She then came to take our orders. I first ordered goulash, which is supposed to be  flavorful meat and gravy over spatzels. The gravy tasted like canned gravy with ketchup, and the spatzels were laying in a 1/2 inch of water in the serving plate. this was not even warm enough to eat. This was sent back. The waitress told me when I started to order a hamburger that the burgers take a long time. Since my companion had her food I asked what would take the shortest time and she suggested a club sandwich (this I could make at home).I did get the club which was OK ( to be fair, I didn't want a cold sandwich to start with). The sides that were served were potato pancakes, which were underdone on the inside and slightly burnt on the outside. My companion ordered the Rubin with a side of potato pancakes. The meat on the Rubin was lean and delicious as was the sauerkraut and cheese. The bread was greasy, fried in too much fat. She took her potato pancakes home to have the next day. When trying to re-heat the pancakes the under cooked potatoes were black therefore these were thrown away.
All in all, I think I will spend my money elsewhere.

Patron, 11675 Perry Highway Wexford PA 15090, February 3, 2011

Went for the first time to this place. The out and inside is cheerful and full of color. The staff greeted us well and seemed genuinelyglad to see us. We met a man who identified himself as the assistant manager,       Miguel Casillas, who checked on us 2 times while we were there. My daughter joined us two fat ladies, and she said the menu was pretty much what you'd expect, with fajitas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, also chilis rellenos and tamales. They were making the tamales while we were ordering, so my daughter got the chili relleno lunch (6.95). We started off with chips and salsa, and the chips were fresh and warm, and not too salty or greasy. The salsa was medium/mild heat, so all could enjoy. We ordered cheese dip (1.75), and this tasted like Velveeta with hot sauce in it. I ordered chipotle chicken (7.99), strips of chicken and onion with a wonderful chipotle sauce. It was also served with very flavorful refried beans and rice. My daughter's meal consisted of a chili relleno, a crispy beef taco, refried beans and a salad with guacamole. The pepper was excellent, done but not mushy, of a good size and battered and deepfried, with sauce baked on top. Fat Lady #2 ordered a chimichanga stuffed with shredded chicken (7.99), which also had rice and refried beans, with the salad mix and guacamole. Again, fresh and good-tasting.  We ordered iced tea, which was fresh brewed and delicious. The coffee was also fresh and very good. Time from ordering to lunch was six minutes, and the restaurant was not crowded. The only complaint that I had was that you had to catch the waiters if you wanted something, and that there were mistakes made on the check.

LongHorn 1679 State Rd. Cranberry Township PA 16066 12/22/10 7pm

Two fat ladies were Christmas shopping and stopped at this place. When we walked into the place we knew we were in a meat lovers place. With all the stone work and such, the ambient noise level with the music loud and people competing it was a ruckus. The waiter was polite and attentive and food came to us in good time. We ordered a fillet and lobster tail ($26.79) and a 14oz strip ($20.99). The steaks were cooked perfectly and so was the lobster tail. The baked potatoes were a little overcooked and mushy. A great starter was the Texas Tonion [sic]- a fried onion blossom that was cooked throughout, seasoned well and served with a great tasting dip.

Red Lobster 2/17/11-4766 McKnight Rd. Pgh PA

We two fat ladies love seafood, so off to the Red Lobster. We were greeted very well and seated w/o delay at 5pm on a Wednesday. The waiter was fast and attentive, but the kitchen a little slow. Both of us ordered the Admirals feast ($16.99 each) and added a side of snow crab legs ($7.50). Every thing was very good, with the seafood cooked just right and not over breaded. This was served with a real baked potato, oiled and rubbed with sea salt. The salad was very ordinary, but the cheese biscuits divine. All in all, a good meal. Too full for dessert and we had food to take home.

Blue Water Tavern, Feb. 2011

This is a good sized restaurant located at the Pine Tree Shoppes, 12087 Perry Highway, Wexford PA 15090. Owner is Matthew Hughes, matt@eatbluewater.com. This place has wine/beer tasting parties.
When two fat ladies were there, and after questioning several things on the menu we ordered porterhouse steaks. One ordered rare and one medium. After a long delay, the water offered us rolls and butter. Don't bother with these for the rolls were supermarket quality and the "butter" is a chemical smelling margarine. After more waiting, the waiter came to us to explain that because he was new his orders didn't go to the kitchen, causing the long delay. When we were finally served, the steaks were perfect. The fries were hot and crispy without being over done. This was one of the best steak and fries dinner either of us had had,at a restaurant in a long time.
We spoke with the owner, Matthew after the meal and he confirmed the trouble that the waiter had with our orders and apologized. He offered that the rolls were nothing special and that margarine was going to stay. I expressed my opinion, that a place that serves as good a steak as his should provide real butter for the bread and real cream (or half and half) for good coffee.
